The Work Habits You Need to Break - Walrath Recruiting, Inc.

The Work Habits You Need to Break - Walrath Recruiting, Inc. We all have bad habits and accumulating more and more over time can reflect poorly on your work ethic. The more habits you have, the tougher they will be to break. Sometimes we may not even notice we have said bad habit! We have listed a few of the most common bad work habits below for you to be aware of and how to break them if you can relate. Breaking these habits will make you a more satisfied and motivated employee. Not Eating Though you may not feel too hungry one day, skipping meals can actually lower your productivity and mood. Not eating or snacking can potentially be a bad work habit! Find some time to eat something healthy every day, especially when on your lunch break. Choose foods that keep you energized and boost your brain power! If you need some ideas,  check out our list of some great snacks for the office here. Not Asking for Help It’s always a positive thing to go out and find the answer to a question you may have on your own. But, at a certain point, it’s okay to ask for help and see if someone else knows the answer. You don’t want to end up wasting your time or others who may be waiting for you. This also rings true when you may have a lot of projects and deadlines piling up. If you need an extra hand, don’t be afraid to reach out to a team member or employee who could help. When it comes a time that they need you though, be there to return the favor. Not Making a To-Do List Making a to-do list and a calendar with deadline alerts helps you stay on top of things and organized. You can’t trust your brain to remember everything when you’re working in a fast paced environment. Not writing things down is a terrible habit to get in to and can only negatively affect you. You never want to miss a deadline or fail to do the top important tasks of the day first. Prioritizing is vital! Not Leaving Your Seat Get up and move! Staying in one spot all day can become a terrible habit leading to stressors that aren’t necessary. We office workers spend the majority of our days sitting at a desk. Sitting for too long can make us tired and lower our alertness. Start getting up once in a while to speak to a coworker face to face vs. sending an email or taking a short bathroom break. Making little habits of taking short desk breaks is a good thing! Just don’t spend TOO long away. Procrastinating Procrastinating is one of the nastiest work habits you can get into! By creating that to-do list we mentioned, you can limit said procrastination. Checking things off that checklist is rewarding! Also never wait until the last minute to start a big project. Give yourself time to get it done the right way and well. Starting something late and not finishing can break your momentum. Staying Late Staying late once in a while is a good thing. Staying on top of your work and making sure things get done is important and shows dedication. Doing this all the time can become a bad habit. It’s important to step away from your work sometimes to relax and rejuvenate. Coming back to work with a fresh mind and perspective can help spark the creativity and inspiration you need. Start breaking those bad habits! Let us know your tips for avoiding bad work habits below.
